Provenance
Native to the Mediterranean and neighbouring countries, Northern Africa, and parts of Asia, this is a very well known culinary herb and medicinal plant. In South Africa it is grown in small quantities for Cape Fynbos Oils on Rockhaven Farm, Groot Winterhoek.

People have used thyme for many centuries as a flavouring agent, culinary herb, and herbal medicine. Traditionally used to treat cold and coughs, as well as intestinal infections. Other functions include liver function improvement and appetite stimulant. The active ingredient called thymol was reported active against enterobacteria and cocci bacteria. Thyme also has antimicrobial and antioxidant effects making it great in skincare products.
Aromatic profile
Herbaceous, penetrating, warming aroma.
Rub a few drops into the palms of the hands and inhale. Steam inhale to clear sinuses and lung congestion.
Can be used directly in the flavouring of food, or as a food preservative.
